I wish the web monetization spec didn't end up breaking down. It'd be really cool if folks could use whatever payment system they wanted and have their user agents and bridges figure out how to route stuff. The single implementation and hard requirements to use Know Your Customer tracking wasn't great though.

@mauve I'm hopeful that using Digital Bearer Certificates containing Safe Network tokens will provide a simple universal mechanism, both in SN and outside (since you can create and send payments offline, and a recipient can later use the network to claim them).
DBCs use private and public keys.
Since tokens will be easy to obtain as a reward for running a node distribution is inherently inclusive.
Adding the ability to reward infrastructure (meshnet gateways, local hops etc) should follow.
@mauve KYC/AML is a legal requirement, you can't dodge it, without severe financial problems or legal woes (see crypto)
