So are any of y'all using the Steam Deck as a regular computer? For programming and stuff

@j3rn @lpil Yup! All day every day. Usually with a head mounted display (I use the Rokid Max) or docked. I use it handhend to do web browsing and code reviews.

Been working on making my text to speech scripts work better for coding cause the on screen keyboard ist great for it.

love the keybinding customization. Got my setup with most functions at a my fingertips

@mauve Whoa! cool! Do you use distrobox or something to get around the read only fs?

Follow

@lpil TBH the read only FS hasn't been too bad. I've just had to install stuff in my home dir using stuff like homebrew 😁 It can be a little janky at times, but IMO less hassle than shoving everything in a container or distrobox.

@lpil For more context I mostly use my deck for programming in node.js, golang, python, and rust. I've also had to get some c++ stuff compiling and that's been a lot more annoying when jugglinf system libraries and the homebrew installed gcc.

Most apps come in the form of flatpaks so that part has been mostly pain free.

@mauve Thanks! So you can't use a system package manager then? And flatpacks put everything in your home directory?
