New “sick person computering from bed” tech unlocked: thigh-mounted magnets (via concealed carry holsters, lmao) to mount my low-profile split keyboard in place.
Combines with cheap AR glasses for the 80s/90s dream of a “cyberdeck”
I’m still finessing this setup (waiting on stronger magnets and holsters that fit better, tweaking my keymap, figuring out a pointing device solution) but gosh is it fun to be back in a mindset of “let me design a physical suite of tools that work for my specific needs”
Oh my god, my new magnet + metal plate setup is so strong that I can’t remove the keyboard without it pulling off the metal sticker because the magnetic pull is so strong even through multiple layers of clothes. I’ll need to super-glue it once I’m confident in everything else.
I’ve also introduced a small travel trackball that helps a ton, I wish there were better low-profile keyboard pointer options (not soliciting advice, I will literally block you on sight if I don’t know who you are and you come into my mentions to ramble about trackpoints!!) but I now understand why people building sculpted desktop keebs like to shove a full-sized trackball in there.
@lazerwalker Have you come across any bluetooth trackballs or trackpoints that weren't attached to a mouse shaped device by any chance? That's been my dream for a while.
