Having colocated my work Mac with a bottle of water emptied in my backpack now I'm working on a loan ThinkPad with Pop OS which I generally find quite nice, but haven't really made my life easy with Wayland as the first foray to desktop Linux, have I? 😅

@dain oh? Has wayland been giving you trouble? I found it to be pretty stable these days.

@mauve I couldn't find a night light filter and none of the 3rd party screenshot apps I tried from COSMIC store (Flatpak) worked (the COSMIC screenshot does, but it's a bit basic) - I'm not entirely sure if these are all Wayland or Pop / COSMIC related, I'm a total newb

@mauve to be fair, none of these (and the ones I worked around and forgot) are dealbreaker issues, but even just having to restart the entire OS to have my user correctly get the `docker` group applied already felt like a hassle when I only restart my Mac when there's an OS update every couple months...

@dain Oof yeah that sounds annoying to deal with. IMO flatpak apps are pretty flakey and it's a coin toss whether it'll work 🥲 The screenshot and color stuff may or may not be a wayland issue. POP still uses gnome right? I'd have expected that to be solved by now

@mauve I think the latest COSMIC isn't based on GNOME any more? Some screenshot apps straight up told me that they won't work with Wayland (which I really appreciated) so based on the limited reading I did I conceptualised it as having to interact with some compositor 🤷 but it's quite humbling that even after more than a decade of server Linux experience, all this desktop stuff just completely blindsided me
