@mauve Ooh, can I ask about your cyberdeck?
I've been seeing more people talking about them recently, but am not quite sure what people are using them for?
(besides ignoring their cats :p /s)
@ragman Currently coding on a premade one from China. https://www.gpd.hk/gpdwin42025 Originally it was made as an alternative to the Steam Deck for gaming but I use it for my programming job.
I'm also in the process of finishing up the software side on my fully wearable setup based on a single board computer and a head mounted display + one handed keyboard. https://www.khadas.com/edge2
@mauve Neat! I have a Steam Deck, I wonder if I can get it running a more stock version of Linux...
And the fully wearable idea is exciting! I hope you finish it :D
@ragman Hmm honestly I'd be careful with stock linux on the deck since they do a bunch of shenanigans to make the controller inputs work correctly on boot.
I can poke you once I have a blog post out with my setup if you'd like :)
@mauve Gotcha, maybe I won't do it then, I like my Steam Deck as it is really 😅
But yeah, hit me up with the blog post! :)
@ragman Yeah! They're such a great device. I tried doing programming on it for like a year before switching to my GPD device. I just keep it in the living room for gaming now 😸 Are you excited about the Steam Frame?
@mauve I have a desktop myself (mid-range, built in 2018, and thanks to RAM and GPU prices I think it's about the same price to build now eight years later..), so I'm not personally excited for the Steam Frame.
I do think it's cool though! Unless you're in, like a specific console-only gaming community (fighting games maybe?), I feel like Steam Frame might be the way to go.
@ragman Oh I meant the standalone VR headset not the new PC thing. I'm mostly curious to see if I can code on it >:)
@ragman Oh I made a similar demo in 2019 using aframe. I made a terminal that treated the DOM like a file tree with some basic linux commands. I went to mozfest and showed folks at the dweb track.
Usually when I use an HMD I srt the scale to 2x so that I can read better evem though it ends up making it feel kinda cramped. Maybe when 4k displays become more normalized it'll be less of an issue. I code on an HMD every week or two. Connected to a linux SBC
