And early twitter over sms. And instagram over mms. from my camera-phone. and diaspora, ssb, and so many other strange forums. cjdns mesh chat. usenet bbs... something i can barely remember. aim. early signal, back when it was encrypted text messages.
@cathos god the period of early twitter where you could just text tweets without ever looking at your timeline was pure bliss
@cathos this is part of why i dream about a mastodon instance designed specifically for low power, low bandwidth machines… i want truly asynchronous messages, a way to send my thoughts into the void, receive a bunch back, and then take my time going thru them
@cathos maybe something where you could send as much as you wanted, but could only receive once a day? or something?
@emaytch yeah! A distributed mesh network thing, where maybe you only get signal on your pocket device a couple times a day as you walk near the public BBS relay?
