It's hard to be invested in the moral superiority of shooter game protagonists as they commit mass murder on "the bad guys". Like, sure this "devil rider boss" had done some crime, but my "protagonist" character has killed thousands of people compared to robbing a bank or whatever tf the bad guys do.
@mauve I haven’t played the newer ones but that’s one of the things that was more interesting about the halo games was when you got to “play as the enemy” in halo 2 for the first time and you learned about the religious crusade of the covenant and how you’re mainly fighting a religion as the architect of war
What would have been more interesting though would have been if you could capture the enemies and dialogue with them into joining your team, which would explain why in halo 3 the four player squad is a spartan, the arbiter, and two elites, but with the player as this now fan fic lore driver.
