oof... i really want to like gimp and believe that its just a different way of doing things but it really is just busted to all hell. pasting copied pixels always creates a "floating layer" that you need to merge or anchor or something to make it useful, messing around with channels and layers seems to have locked up everything and i can move layers around but cannot edit them, no indicator of whether or not i am in some "mode".... i am sure this makes sense to someone but it really is completely inscrutable any time i need to do anything slightly nontrivial

not to gatekeep but this is what you get when foss software nerds play ui/ux designer... ui/ux is fucking hard and its a discipline and a skill that the project does not have access to clearly

this is also why using audacity is an experience that borders on offensive. blender is the exception to this pattern, miracles are possible.

maybe stallman is to blame for making a culture where nothing matters beyond adherence to his illiterate licenses. its ok if the software is garbage from the toilet. its "free as in speech" and thats all that matters. yay.
