Linux not having proper bluetooth headset support is frustrating.

@mauve recent versions of KDE have worked pretty well whenever I've tried to use bluetooth headphones. But I've switched to wired earbuds after my lasy pair broke so I've probably forgotten the fiddling I had to do

@anton Do you use them for audio calls with the headset's mic? TBH it's decent for regular listening but as soon as it switches to HSP it goes all muddy because the other OSs support proprietary codecs and better postprocessing.

@mauve I forgor 💀

I do remember using them on calls once or twice but it wasnt in contexts where bad audio quality would have really been commented on I think

@mauve this seems like the kind of general statement that's probably only true in very specific cases to be an open invitation to reply guys and gals. :P

@mauve that thread seems **very** specific for such a general statement. :D Also, since 2019 I think all distros have migrated from pulseaudio to pipewire. (PS. sorry :goose_scream: )

@mariusor I'm not sure what information I'm supposed to get out of your reply. These are all things I am aware of.

@mariusor Are you just saying things because you enjoy typing or do you have a specific goal?

@mauve I guess my goal would be how you get from "this are things I am aware of" to "linux does not have proper bluetooth headset support"... but I can live without that knowledge I didn't/don't mean to aggravate you and further.

I was hoping my initial slightly humorous reply would defuse the reply-guysm situation that you invited. But if not, cheers, I'll stop

@mariusor Oh I see, I didn't realize you were asking a specific question. I still think my statement stands becuase although it's a lot better now than it was years ago, it's still not as good as the proprietary OSs out of the box and seems to have had issues for a while. E.g. the person in the thread I linked got tired of trying to advocate for their fixes to be merged and started saying that if people want a bt headset they should avoid using Linux.

@mariusor I guess a more satisfying post would have been "I am frustrated that recent linux distros I've used have poor audio quality when I use a bluetooth headset's microphone compared to proprietary OSs with the same headset". 🤪
