Fucked up how capitalism incetivises governments to avoid giving people free food/shelter/medicine just so they can keep getting forced to destroy their bodies for jobs nobody would do otherwise.
One of the most successful aspects of it tbh! That's what people must mean when they say "It's the best system we have".

@sofia I feel like it even transcends the stat and is more like "Those who have or wish to have power over others" and in some ways the large centralized power itself wanting to stay in control of not just the people below but the people wielding it as well.

@mauve yeah, the state isn't the only one, but i think it's one of the few areas (other than animal agriculture? hard to compare 🤷) where violence and power are still that tolerated. power structures tend to be somewhat mutually supporting, and i it's hard to say precisely how much states are to blame and how much is just authoritarian culture that may have also come form parents, religion or whatever…

@mauve well, social hierarchy is the essence of government. it never needed any other incentives to create poverty than just being in power. "capitalism" is one of it's tendrils into society, just as police, military, political parties, etc…
