North Americans should romanticize our squirrels more. They're at least as cool as a kookaburra if you pay them enough attention. Why don't we use their calls in our media?

@mauve Squirrels are something I miss about Toronto when I'm not here. Top tier critter.

@hank @mauve

Black squirrels....

One thing I've noted about Toronto are the jet-black squirrels...

...They're like, negative squirrels....

Here in LA, the squirrels are often friendly enough they'll come up to you hoping for a treat.

On the Disney lot, the squirrels are so tame, they will come up and take a grape from your hand, peel it and eat it right in front of you... or crawl up your leg to grab a walnut...

@Myndex @hank @mauve Haha yeah! Our squirrels are skittish AF. Part of the charm I think tho :P

@hank @Myndex I dunno about Torobto but I can get most Ottawa squirrels into my hand with a bit of patience (and some peanuts). There's some vocalizations and hand gestures one can make that are similar to what they do to communicate with each other. I'ce read a bunch of stuff about squirrels and carry peanuts on me everywhwre I go specificallt to commune with them. Generally chipmunks are easoer though if you give them time.

@mauve @Myndex I think you also pass as a mystical forrest creature better than I do so I'm guessing that helps 🙃
