As much as I like Visual Studio in terms of functionality, I really hate single window applications. I like to have a bunch of code and reference materials all around my desktop and being constrained to tab lists and a sidebar makes it harder to work.
@happyborg Yeah ultimately I was a spatial window manager like @stardustxr so sitting with tabs doesn't work great. I think back when I was only using a laptop then that approach with multiple "desktops" was lot more viable
@mauve if I had a big screen I might feel the same but I've learned to move quickly between two to the tabs with keyboard shortcuts which works well. Occasionally I split windows which works quite well too.
When I really need more windows I launch multiple VS Code instances sometimes across multiple desktops.
But with only a laptop screen I don't have the eyes or screen size to follow your preference.
