Gonna ditch bothering with graphical media players and use a systemd service for music playing from my smb share.

@mauve Yes MPD is fun! I don't use it as my regular audio player, but it's the basis of my alarm clock, and a few other things at work.

@yhancik Snap! How does the alarm clock play into it? Do you have a script that plays a specific file? Does it resume playback of your previous tracks when it finishes?

@mauve it's really basic, i just use cron to play playlists to peacefully put me to sleep or wake me up. I have a little scrip that uses a TTS to remind me of the time it is (when it's time to wake me up)

MPD can resume playback, there's an option in the settings, i don't remember what's the default

@mauve which means that basically every day before going to bed i'm doing a little crontab -e

@vbatts Cool! Do you use it with wayland and SMB? I only found MPD because waybar had a default plugin for it. I've been trying to get an easy way to play music from my NAS but all the players I've tried seem to have trouble with SMB shares. 😅
