tried using the choco windows package manager and hahaha this is the dumbest fucking thing I've ever used.

I'm trying to install sphinx to build a PDF in windows.

Have to install chocolatey. Ooops, need an elevated window for that.

Choco is now half-installed in C:\Programdata, but the installer doesn't acknowledge that. Delete C:\ProgramData\Chocolatey and try again. Success!

okay now choco install Sphinx "Hey, for me to install this, I need python3 and pip is that okay"

record scratch shake head fuck it, let's see where you go with this.

Installation errors out because Chocolatey wants to install version 8.0.2.20240903 and according to pip "that's not a valid version number dude.

Meanwhile me: python -m pip install Sphinx yeah, sure, I got you.

My fucking face:

I'm not kidding. I'm gonna actively be looking for a decent desktop Linux OS over the summer.

I'm tired of this. I'll miss my XCOM2 install with 600 mods, but... I can't do this anymore.

@da_667 Are you playing xcom through steam? It may still work if you copy stuff over. Proton has been great in my experience. Also if you plan to do heavy gaming thd bazzite kernel might be useful on top of whatever else you choose. Optimized for it + steam.
