My 2GB `sacrifice.txt` file saves the day again by unblocking my database so I can run maintenance tasks
@yala Hmm yeah I try to stay away from FS specific features so I can worry a bit less about the specific systems I get deployed to
@mauve
I'm glad that works for your use cases.
In our situation as an ISP, the fs does quite some heavy lifting for us, why we must embrace it with all its ideosyncracies.
@yala Nice! Yeah you're defs operating on a higher level than me so it makes sense. Glad FS creators have stuff like this built in for those that know how to optimize things well.
@mauve
I'm also always amazed! So yes. 😅
@mauve lol that's a funny hack. Might do it some time
@powersource I'd strongly recommend it on all your machines :P Saved my butt like a dozen times by now
@mauve
I've just learned, in case you are using ZFS, there's a dataset property refreserved one can use to create empty space on a drive for such conditions. At least that file system can still delete things when reserved, empty space is present.
Now that I think of it, maybe we too do need a sacrifice.txt
