A lot of "independent news" accounts focus on rage baiting their readers and getting them addicted to the feeling smug hatred. It doubles as a way to amplify toxic nihilism and anti social viewpoints. I doubt the creators care much beyond getting those views and the money they can scrounge with them.
@ellyxir Yeah the only winning move is to not give a platform to rage bait, the middle move is to not engage and purge from your local graph. 🤷
@mauve@mastodon.mauve.moe ive definitely left comments on the "other side" and got a lot of hate. i have a feeling if i faked leaving opposing comments on my side, i'd probably get a similar amount of hate, but i've no idea.
