The decisions behind Doom 3 make a lot more sense after playing System Shock. They were trying to be that but with more demons and gore. Maybe I'll appreciate a reay more than when I was a kid expecting it tl be like Doom 2

@mauve I was disappointed with Doom 3 when it released but now it's one of my favorite shooters to replay. The engine and hit detection is extremely solid, the atmosphere is great, and I like the weapons (other than the shotgun). The BFG Edition makes a lot of changes to the game which aren't all great imo, but it can run at 120 FPS, which is nice. But if you want it more moody and challenging (and locked at 60fps) try the original with the dhewm3 source port

@reaversion Good to know! I'll defs add it to my queue. I think even back then it got a lot more interesting when you got out of the starting area and it got more hell like. Have you been enjoying the more recent titles? I tried Doom Eternal but I felt an even bigger disconnect. 😅 Maybe I've been playing too many goofy shooters like Borderlands lately

@mauve Yes! The hell level in D3 is really awesome. I like newer Dooms but they're so different... It feels way less about exploring and more like just going from one big battle arena to the next. I like shooters like Half-Life 2 and Metroid: Prime, where the levels feel more sprawling and interesting on their own. Old Doom and Quake 1 have that quality, imo. What kind of disconnect did you feel in Eternal? Are you looking for more immsim games like SS2?
