fucking hate how stores force me to use their shitty self checkout machined. Getting groceries is a humiliation ritual.
@mauve I love it. Free discounts every single time.
@mauve the barcode is always on the other side
Also “robots will take your job”, is just false when I can feel myself LARPing working as a cashier again.
The machine didn’t become a self check out machine, they just took away the conveyor belt and turned the screen around
I feel the urge to upsell myself a magazine before completing the transaction
@tychi I did my time working as a cashier and it was less stressful because the robot wasn't costantly complaining about bagging and the interface was way more efficient despite looking like it was made in the 90s. :P
@mauve being a cashier was highly informative on becoming a software engineer
The Best Buy POS is just like, function keys all the way down
It’s literally a scan gun and a contextual chain of F keys where you only need to do touch num pad to change the price
Back when software had to be done and people could be trained on the job with no computer experience
I wasn’t even hired as a cashier, I was just the one guy that wouldn’t pretend to be busy when the cashiers got overloaded
“Code 1 to the register, code 1”
I am Code 1.
@mauve I avoid stores that only have self-checkout, and have been known to just abandon my cart at a store that was clearly intentionally allowing the checkout line to be long to force people to use self-checkout while staff just hung around doing nothing.
