Looks like Jitsi started requiring accounts to start chat rooms. Anyone have alternatives for open source ish video calls?

- no need for registering an account
- Using webrtc in browsers
- firefox support
- "pretty" urls like "/call/my-cusom-room-name"
- open source ish and self hostable

@eater @mauve that's the correct answer. The mandatory account thing is only enforced on Jitsi's own instance, but other servers just let you create a chatroom normally ;)

I don't know how up to date it is but : jitsi.github.io/handbook/docs/

@yhancik @eater TBH I'm almost tuinking of coding something and deploying it via a p2p gateway. I've done so much webrtc stuff I might we well save myself some hassle. :p

@mauve I love mumble myself and there is a browser client. It just feels more countercultural.

@mauve ikr so annoying! tou could always deploy an older version of jitsi?

@mauve What do you think of something like huddle01? It’s a web3 VC funded thing (I personally never used it). They’re working on dRTC.

huddle01.com/

@mauve Oh, it’s not completely open-sourced (only SDKs) :/
It’s a no no for me.
