@mauve have you looked into Named Data Networking? i think it has a lot of potential!
@cuaxolotl Yeah! They've been on my radar for a while. The docs and tools don't feel very accessible at the moment, but I think the concept is very cool.
@mauve mesh networking is Hard Research. accessibility does matter, but we don't know how to do mesh networking in the first place so that has to come later by necessity. high level though, adopting information-centric application design practices is a good place to start moving towards systems that can make sense of this type of interaction model. we desperately need new ways of thinking about networking and online data processing. the old ways of web and phone are not really suited to a world of portable radios.

@cuaxolotl Yeah, I think it's a matter of time for this stuff to get more mainstream as some of these experimental approaches turn into tools that regular people would use.
