With local-first apps, users have full control over their data, and it is stored on their own device rather than on remote servers. This reduces the risk of data breaches and unauthorized access to data.

ODD apps are not only local-first, but they are also able to work offline and collaborate across multiple devices. #oddsdk #localfirstcomputing #p2p

@fission For what it's worth it should be possible to make them fully local-first in the future with browsers that have built in IPFS like @agregore or @brave 😁

@mauve @fission @agregore @brave why are they currently not fully local first? It kind of says they are or what am I missing?

@ninabreznik @fission They are targeting the web platform which only supports connecting people via servers (with some caveats).

@mauve @ninabreznik @fission I mean, it’s complicated. We run js-IPFS in the browser which can make it local first, and the WebCrypto API also is all local for accounts.

I’m not hyper focused on p2p only, but rather having people run their own servers or pick from different providers.

With Brave also having a wallet built in, lots of flexibility if that’s what people have installed.

@boris @mauve @fission i see. Thanks, Boris! Will have to read more to wrap my head around as you bind together many services I am not super familiar with 😊
