For those not in the know, here's a pic of me using my GPD Win 4. Usually I wear my head mounted display but it was more comfy to code like this at the time. This is the machine I do all my dev on.
@mauve oh what head mounted display are you using? for coding?
@dan_ballard Viture XR Pro but I'm probs going to get the new XReal One Pro once I can justify the expense :P

@mauve it's something I've been thinking about since VR headsets started coming out, using it for portable work rather than VR gaming, I think Ghost In The Shell was predicting this in the 90s and so I've been interested since I saw some early work to bring desktop to VR like 5 years ago, but I haven't followed closely since. These seem a big step forward in usability, finally having 1080p screens and much lighter weight.
Questions:
1) so they just usb plug into a device and are powered that way too?
2) you do coding work on them? how's that experience? is there a time limit you find before you want to return to a bigger flatter screen?
3) general experience pros/cons?

1. Yup, they're a USB-C display that happens to go on your face
2. Usually I set the display scale to 2x to read the text better. Might not need to with the large screen emulation/3dof in the XReal One Pro. I usually only use the display when on the go or on the couch. I have a 39 inch display I use like 70% of the time
3. Linux driver / XR desktop support is not great. I like it more than laptops. Input devices can be tricky on the go

I am a fan of my Xreal glasses (https://neilzone.co.uk/2024/06/six-months-with-the-xreal-air-2-pro-glasses/), but I would *love* a 4K version / more screen estate.
That, for me, is the single biggest downside to the pair I have.
