Dang, looks like #Mastodon doesn't handle relative URIs when parsing #ActivityPub / #ActivityStreams data.

For example I can't set the `id` of a post to be a relative URL since it loads it as raw JSON.

This makes it harder to publish static data to #p2p

Dang pretty frustrating that #Mastodon doesn't attempt to load a users's post from their ActivityPub data when you load their profile for the first time. This leads to profiles being empty until you follow them, and even then you just get any new posts.

Seems to have been an issue people have wanted addressed since 2016. 😬

Yes this is a major cope on the fact that I have had to use so many open source libraries with zero docs 😭

Docs are nice but really I prefer reading source code at this point because it paints such an intimate picture of how the code wants to be used. At least usually! Sometimes I just have no clue what's going on in there. 🤣

@dym that's probably possible with a custom gateway or http server. one limitation I'm dealing with however is publicly run Ipfs gateways which have very simple logic so I think the most I could do is convince them to adopt some new mime types. ideally I would like to make it possible to resolve an identity from any gateway.

another approach that I have been thinking about is that we could focus less on web finger and more linking directly to the profiles page
