I don't think cloud AI will fully go away but I think it'll make less and less sense for consumer facing use cases as the small models become more viable via better training and better hardware acceleration.
I think in the next couple years OS-shipped #LocalAI will replace the use of heavy cloud based #AI. Microsoft, Google, and soon Apple will be shipping devices with local LLMs and it'll be cheaper for applications to target those APIs rather than pay OpenAI or the such. This will also mean that we'll get into a sort of "browser wars" of model functionality gated by hardware vendors.
@dulvui It's a GPD Win 4 and my powe block is an Omni Charge. My fave part of it is the built in keyboard.

@godotengine @aa @technobaboo the main thing missing on other platforms, like steamVR, is the ability to have desktop apps appear as a window while running an immersive XR app.
It’s actually really weird this isn’t a thing as it would solve most use cases for the missing overlay support in OpenXR

@390a5738b56da18489cc672da7c2654904096b560ca5ec0581f87c9762f760dc I just use my GPD Win 4. I remapped my controller keys to where I like it and the mini keyboard does the job pretty well. I find alternative keyboards don't handle key combos and all the special characters I need for programming. E.g the tap strap just really didn't do it for me

@fabrefact I ended up inlining an async function I was calling until it worked 😅 Diverted into LocalSet for a bit which was less than fruitful

@hrefna That's one of the reasons I've been interested in bringing P2P protocols into the mix. Instead of everyone fetching from one server it could be spread over a swarm of nodes with peers resharing to others that are interested instead of one server getting overloaded.

Dear corp world: I actually really like returning to office and being with people in person. But all those pre-8am and after-5pm meetings I've been attending to make life easier on other timezones were bought with commute savings.

AHA! Apparently I can get around this by using `tokio::task::spawn_local` instead of `tokio::spawn` according to this response to a deleted reddit post from two years ago. Yes my life expectancy got reduced a little while trying to figure this out.

@makeworld I never understood how people could think that him "leaving a leadership role" made the project "okay". He still had stake in the technical layers and had a huge influence on the culture. It felt a bit too optimistic to me. I find this development unsurprising.

To facilitate doing this for others' benefit, I made a quick webpage to convert your Google Maps GeoJSON data to GPX and KMZ files that render well in Organic Maps.
