@futureisfoss the meta right now is buying those mac minis with the "unified memory" so you can use the RAM with their GPU acceleration. Something like a 64 gig box should do the trick. I ended up getting a 128 GB DGX spark alternative cause I didn't want to worry about ram for a few years. 😝
@futureisfoss Hmm tbh it depends on what you're trying to do. I'd say for multi round coding taskd with longer contexts anything less than 27B won't cut it. And even then Qwen 3.6+ seems to be one of the few that actually cut it. For basic stuff like zero shot bash scripts or code snippets 8b models can work well enough, even the 4b gemma models can handle zero shot tasks if you keep their context small. Use vllm or llama.cpp instead of ollama for running inference.
Youtube search is such garbage lately. It's hard to actually get the videos for my search terms. And then harder to find something that's low effort and full of empty words. 🥲 Gotta publish my own blog post about it once I figure it out.

Pissed off at how many supposed "bone conduction" headsets are actually "air conduction". One I considered had the usual bone conduction design in the marketing but very obviously had shitty speaker grates in the customer review photos.
23. I've been meaning to get a fancier bone conducting headset for my setup. This one comes with a camera that I could feed into my local assistant! Better than the clunky wired cameras I have but never use. Goal would be to speed up note taking or scanning business cards or event photos.

Yep, I'm about to be that person again. Please remember to put alt text on your audio as well as your images. Deaf people matter, too. "A silly song" or "game sounds" is not helpful, the same way "a cute bird" or "a funny meme with a cat" aren't helpful as image alt texts. Blind or sighted, please do this. I'm not even someone who really needs audio alt texts and I'm still sad when I see missing or unhelpful alt text. It doesn't have to be some elaborate thing, you don't have to be a perfect writer or capture every minute detail, just describe what you're hearing. I always liked the thing of "describe it like you're talking to a friend who can't access it," and I think that's applicable here just as much as it is to images. And no, it is not just deaf people who benefit from audio alt texts.

I really wish blind people whos only disability is blindness would remember and keep at the front of their minds that "just because something talks, or makes noises,' does not by default make it accessible. And when someone who is blind tells you that this talking device/tool/thing isn't accessible that you don't immediately start yelling, name calling, etc. This shit is SO EXHAUSTING! There are people who "require" braille. Not because it's nice, or fun, or cool.... but because without it *nothing* is accessible. So when we say "This game" or "this tool" or smart speakers in general aren't accessible, it's facts. I'm going to go touch grass now.
Why do all the straight boys look the same these days? Like all the same haircut and same style of clothing 💀
