Believe it or not, there is still plenty of interesting and exciting work to talk about that doesn't involve LLMs.

Cryptographers contributing to the IETF is working to standardize FROST, a two-round threshold signature algorithm based on Schnorr proofs, which is backwards compatible with Ed25519.

This means it will soon be possible to generate Ed25519 signatures from, for example, 4-of-7 shares held by independent parties. And the verifier doesn't need to do anything different; it's just an Ed25519 signature to them.

That's cool as fuck.

There's little-to-no hype about it.

@tty I try to have it be my "end of the night wind down" when possible. After my partner goes to sleep I put in a book and tidy the clean ones and load the dishwasher with the dirty ones. I try not to use stuff I can't fit in the dishwasher because otherwise it's way harder to fit into my day.

I say it a lot but the biggest gift I can get at work is a cancelled meeting s I can get a bonus hour of getting code and docs written down :P

i swear so many problems in society are just the
#knowledgeProblem over and over again.

like the thing that so much software is designed to be addictive is yet another instance of central planning run amok.

instead of software being created in an exchange between devs and users big tech has big dumb metrics (engagement) to maximize, because that's what you need to rely on if you suffocate bottom-up discovery processes with your big dumb oligopoly.

Pretty excited by the fact that I can reach both and via bridges now. 🥰 Hope more of these federated systems get bridged soon too.

@bnewbold.net Yo! How do I look on that side? :P
I'm thinking of adding a link on my blog or somethin.

@tilton Yeah I've been meaning to fork Chrome OS to make use of p2p web protocols and maybe add in mesh network capabilities. Just wish there were handy forks that work on mobile and are degoogled :P

@brandon What distro were you thinking? Linux has gotten super heavy lately with the major rereleases of GNOME and Plasma.

you can play golf on a sharp pocket calculator from the 80s

but i cannot edit video and have a web browser open at the same time on a system with 8G RAM

we need to start over again. everything has gone wrong.

I wish there was an hour long remix in the vibe of this track. It feels so good to code to.

@tauon Here's some that might be less common:

- supports webtorrent for video streaming
- loads profile outbox on demand
- supports account migration
- supports Groups (create, read, write, mention)

If I may also shamelessly plug social.distribbuted.press we also support loading and publishing profiles with protocols.

@gremlins I haven't had children but as an Audhd person I have had to solve similar issues with myself. I find it harder to eat when I am hungry so smaller snacks sooner can make it easier. If the PDA accomodations don't work you may also want to look into stuff that helps with Executive Dysfunction which for me has been more stims to get my dopamine firing more regularly. But yeah a small bit of applesauce sooner might heko get the blood sugar up beforehand and nake it easier to think.

My roman empire is thinking about all the cool AR stuff I have no time to work on

@munin Yeah that'd be neat. I think there's a bunch if research out there to craft prompts to extract raw data. Personally I'd use an off the shelf model like phi3 with just a bit of prompting to save on costs 😅 Then again scammerd probably have enough resources for going all out.

@munin Generally the tool calls are totally isolated from the text context so it's pretty unlikely. Then again if they use RAG yoy might be able to get it to fetch sensitive data if it exists in a connected database

two of the best feelings when programming are:
1. figuring out a really clever way to solve a problem
2. figuring out a really stupid way to solve a problem
