I had to go out to buy a specific version of the iPad in order for my kids to be able to do their homework.

Educational policies aside, it was a sad reminder of what we are losing when we let the web be displaced by propietary apps.

Betterbird has been randomly crashing on top of no longer consistently logging into my outlook email. I fucking hate the state of email and especially wish I hadn't tied so much with microsoft when I was younger.

@mos_8502 I found it got easier to read after the first few thousand lines of code. I agree though it was hard to grock with all the conventions that don't exist in other places.

My poor mastodon server reached a full disk since it seems my automated cleanup script wasn't running. Luckily I had a file allocatex to give me extra space for recovery and I let it run overnight. :P 75 GB of random attachmentd I probably have never seen. I think stuff like that should be loaded on demand tbh

Be the change you want to see in the world. Start by changing your editor settings from spaces to tabs.

I just realized what I hate about modern chat: it's not a small window on the screen anymore, it's *the whole screen*.

Discord (et al) is barely usable in a small window, whereas AOL Instant Messenger was *very* usable in a small window as you went about your browsing.

For me, smaller window = fewer distractions.

They also frame it as the plot of The Matrix which is hilarious to me.

God I love The Matrix 😭💜

S15E08 of south park is so good. (spoilers) there's a bit where Stan gets "diagnosed" as aspergers and they show how to world sees them but then they show what it's actually like to be one. As an autistic person it hits home.

Imagine if physical goods sellers made EULAs like software companies. "Oh you bought a can of pepsi? Yeah we can steal your organs now and you've revoked your personhood"

For real if TVs could apply ai powered video filters to whatever is being displayed I'd jump on that shit instantly. I want to watch garfield with the filter that gives everyone a chiseled jawline

@skryking Big mood. Especially since my scroll wheel is "virtual" and sometimes isn't enough to trigger the page change which is even worse. I iust want to see the tech specs and scroll in peace 😭

7. A head mounted display with an Android TV box you can wear as a neckband. It can do everything my rokid max can and more. I could install termux to do dev on it or RDP into other boxes.

@mosseri Heyo! I'm working on making this fediverse stuff work over peer to peer file transfer protocols like BitTorrent so we can skip needing servers in the first place :)

When the company calls their home appliances "smart", what I hear is:

- they spent money on features I don't care about
- those features will be worse than standalone devices but will drive them out of market (looking at you TVs)
- the appliance is more likely to break
- my data is likely being sold to advertisers
- when the company loses interest in it and cut support, I will need to buy a new device

So no, I don't want "smart" home appliances.

Love it when the issue only needs two lines of code to fix :P
