Until YouTube makes it possible to boost quiet audio natively in the web player, I will not feel a single drop of guilt about using yt-dlp or watching maintainers fix whatever they broke for the third time this week. Google can throw billions at walling off their platform, but no amount of corporate money will ever out-code a bunch of nerds driven by open-source idealism and a deeply autistic need to archive everything. Just give up already.

Look folks the genie is out of the bottle. The genie went from $20/mo to $200/mo. The genie is spending $8 for every dollar it makes. The genie is reactivating every coal power plant it can. The genie needs 60% of your town's water. The genie is hiding $1.65 trillion in debt. But it's out of the bottle! The genie is out of the bottle folks.

Techbros have literally solved and then re-created the problem of lack of access to information in one lifetime.

It's funny how in my lifetime I've gone from:

“you need to memorise everything and use offline sources if you want to navigate the world,"

to:

“just bring your magic phone thingy and it will have all the answers for you,"

back to:

“you need to memorise everything and use offline sources if you want to navigate the world"

again.

Often the species that are labeled "invasive" don't just need humans to move to new places, they tend to be dependent on humans to thrive. They are anthrophilic you might say.

It's really us.

There have been a few cases, where on a small island rats, or some other pest has been eliminated. It's much easier if there aren't any people around.

Had a rly big day full of hiking and swimming and wandering. Got up at 11 am, stayed up till 6 am. 🥰

@nasser that suuuucks 🫂 I'm happy that at work I can at least trust that it's been looked over by a human and it's done pretty much how they would have done it by hand.

Locked out of my building's storage locker cause the lock ran out of battery. 😰

It's easy to make something that nobody else is going to use

Hate it when I'm given slop spew to review and it's clear neither they nor the LLM had any clue what they were doing. Like, do people not review their slop before putting it on others?

Been practicing logging into my sbc and starting the screen reader without a display. 💪 Getting decent muscle memory though I mess up some of the keys on my chorded keyboard with my pinky

You really can't appreciate how much 12 keys dedicated to "function keys" is until you have to map all of them on a chorded keyboard.

@mauve Most proprietary software, especially online services, are 90+% open-source software anyway...

Gonna slop up a speech-dispatcher based notification server so I can hear notifications from apps without needing a full graphical session.

Adjusted my nanorc to be more screen reader friendly. Also made speech-dispatched speak all the special characters so I know wtf is actually on the screen. Might want to extend my reader to handle reading camel case and snake case along with how it pitches up for capitalized words.

It's not even that I like software just for the freedom. Proprietary software keeps getting worse while open source gets less buggy. Just a few months ago I had problems that are non issues now since someone fixed them for free without trying to get me dependant on some subscription service for it.
