Lest you think that union-busting is strictly a private sector activity, my best friend works for one of the University of California’s libraries. She is paid way less to work for their library than a normal person in her job would be, by policy, just because it’s the library. About 40% less. The university told her that’s just how they do things and that was policy.
The library unionised. The school tried to bust the union. Correspondence about it “mysteriously” disappeared. They stated their official position was that a union was not needed. They tried to pressure the employees involved to stop. They cried “budget” and blah blah. Usual nonsense.
They voted to unionise anyway.
The school is being dragged to the negotiating table.
Just in case you thought that this shit didn’t happen in the public realm.
@HowsThatNow @tiefling @VulpineDruid my hot take is that more than three active partners is inviting turbulence. One of my pals got too excited and was dating like 5 people and it blew up in their face. 🥲 Also different if you are solo poly vs everyone dating I guess.

@HowsThatNow @tiefling @VulpineDruid It really depends. there's as many variations as there are queer relationships. A lot of folks don't like to use terms like "primary" and adopt a more relationship anarchist style. Usually poly people call partners they live with "nesting partners". Time allocation is an eternal struggle. Also helps when you have different commitment levels and needs. E.g. my partners that are married don't need as much, wheras I see my nesting partners every day.

i am sort of stuck on this. you have to remember whenever these totally off the planet AI guys describe their workflow to stop and do the math for what that would mean in a normal person's life. so with 12+1 $200/month claude subscriptions and the one $200/month chatGPT subscription, that's $2,800 a month. He says that's the equivalent of $87,000 a month of token usage.
$2,800/month is more than my rent and utilities, and $87,000 is more than i make in a year. This guys addiction costs more than my annual salary per month for nothing. this is the future of software development where you have to be ridiculously rich to play - where he is also actively pulling the ladder up and saying "don't develop shared libraries" - no more "if you have a laptop and a keyboard you can program," not even a fig leaf to "AI enables nonprogrammers to program."
the vision of the future of programming that's being presented here is literally just "if you have more money than 99.9999% of people on this earth, then you can totally lose your mind"

This is hideously depressing (here come the megabright satellites, screw you AST Spacemobile). But I am delighted that these authors (none of whom I've ever worked with before) use the word "megaconstellation" with no qualifiers!
Did you know that satellite companies HATE the word megaconstellation and keep requesting astronomers not use that word?
Did I mention that a significant fraction of my recently published papers have the word "megaconstellation" in the title?

I've been preaching this for years. Developers should be forced to work and test their software on Celeron, 256MiB RAM, 256MiB swap, 5400 RPM spinning rust 120GB HDDs.
I'm okay with compilation to happen on a beefy iron.
But the actual user experience should be the absolute minimum.
Our healthcare system is so fucked. Over six hours in the waiting room innurgent care and we were in line before they even opened. 🫠

Interesting catch by @zackwhittaker - although we don't know the number of people impacted by the Adform breach has they haven't commented, Adform say they serve 1.5 billion adverts a day, and the breach lasted at least 5 days.
Pretty compelling reason to use an adblocker.
My cyberdeck makes it so easy to commune with my codebase from anywhere. Just sitting under a tree and debugging while I wait for my partner's appointment.
On the web, the less you do the easier it is to keep your site acessible. It's the fancy custom buttons and dynamic content that gets yah.

I'm tired, and I don’t want to do free accessibility consulting for this website owner, so I'll outline only one way this won’t work for screen reader users out of many.
Aside from the fact an LLM made the website, and the font as well, the reason it doesn’t work for screen reader users because, even on that demo page, a timer has to be activated. A button must be pushed. A timer activates, and a screen reader user must find the fixed bit of text again. The website makes it sound as if it should be just automatically accessible/visible to the screen reader, and that fails.
Aside from the screen reader issues, that's not the only one, but I don’t want to do free accessibility consulting for this website, some of the other issues include but are not limited to…
It doesn’t prevent scraping.
It doesn’t prevent taking a snapshot and then doing OCR on that screenshot.
It breaks custom fonts anybody has disabled or enabled.
It breaks copy and paste.
It breaks for people without JavaScript enabled.
It breaks for anybody using a good ad blocker.
It prevents search from working on the website.
And many, many, more things that are in my replies.
If you want to learn about me and my screen reader, my FAQ page is below the website I'm talking about.
If you use this font to protect your text from AI, it also blocks *me, a human* because I use a screen reader. I did try the demo. If you want me to remove your RSS feed, this is the best font to prevent blind people from reading your blog/words.
