I want to get used to using a fancy IDE like VS Code again, but I find myself jumping back into bash+nano because everything is just so much faster and more simple. I hate how many random popups and shit VS code throws in my face and how there's random keyboard shortcuts I'd never use that I end up fat-fingering. Like, I don't care if there's a new version out, don't remind me later just never talk to me again.
Once libraries are nonexistent any modern fascist movement wouldn't even have to burn books, but flick one switch and they'd be remotely deleted from your Amazon Kindle or similar digital “library”.
Capitalists are already building the infrastructure to do this through DRM, so stop believing tech is apolitical - the defunding of libraries and paywalling of information are all part of this.
BTW for anyone interested in this stuff, come join my Matrix Channel about open source AI. https://matrix.to/#/#userless-agents:mauve.moe
Food (fun)
OMG the pasta I added absorbed all the broth and now it's more like "Mac & Radishes".
Reminder to anyone who said "Meta wouldn't do anything to Fediverse, we should let them join!"
Meta is now automatically muting all posts that mention PixelFed, so it's users can't read about any alternatives to its services.

Just remember, *Every time advocacy groups warn about tech/capitalism, believe them.* We don't make shit up, we use history of actions and facts to state our reasons to be against it.
If your instance isn't part of @FediPact please urge your admins to join or move to another instance who is.
And if you want proof, ask the general public what Jabber/XMPP was, and then ask what Google how they killed it.
EDIT: *Please* send support to the creator of the FediPact, @vantablack as she is homeless. This is possible because of them.
EDIT #2: Some peppe are saying it doesn't happen anymore, but since it *only* happened to competitors to Facebook and only *after* people noticed, I don't think it was a "bug" that only impacted FOSS replacements, but a feature for Facebook removed. Don't give these Zuckers gaslight and think they remain innocent.

Me, an idiot: “So, kids, by setting the thermostat a little lower and eating less meat, we’re doing our part to make the world more sustainable”
VCs, very smart: “We just raised $100 billion dollars from the sovereign wealth funds of three petrostates to build the world’s largest AI supercomputer. It uses as much power and water as Guatemala and the primary use case is for management consultants to autogenerate powerpoints for justifying mass layoffs.”
Video of my talk about making an #OpenSource #LLM perform function calling on my machine.
Seeing some echos today of the AI trust crisis I wrote about back in December: it's very, very hard to convince people that their private data isn't being used to train AI models once they've decided that it might be happening

Gonna be presenting a demo of teaching local a #llm to search wikipedia with "Function Calling"
We have been trying to get the council to act on the smell from the chip shop near us for years. The one and only council official who deals with this stuff literally lives an hour away in the country.
He came tonight and first tried to say the smell wasn’t that offensive. Like “it is just chargrilling”. And we were like “no it’s grease”. Then I started reading from this webpage about “statutory nuisance” and arguing how this constituted one, and he was basically shamed into agreeing and promising to take action https://www.gov.uk/guidance/nuisance-smells-how-councils-deal-with-complaints
Incredible to me that in the 21C we still only rely on the subjective judgement of a human nose. There is no objective criteria for dealing with this kind of pollution.
@mortendk @eleventy I convinced my work to use eleventy for their site. Moved off of Drupal as I knew I could make a better faster site if I didn’t have to wrestle with Drupal templates. It’s a professional hospital site. Uses TinaCMS for editing content. https://fetus.ucsf.edu/
I'm gonna be in #montreal next week from monday to wednesday if anyone wants to do a lil social meet or something for dinner or lunch :)
