there's this quote "a society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in" that shows up verbatim lots of places cited as a Greek proverb, but the degree to which it is quoted verbatim makes me think there might be a more recent source that's not being attributed properly. regardless of its origin, i like the philosophy: build a better future together little by little doing the things you can today

"we need to open our eyes to the fact that the current industry many of us work in, not only doesn’t care about their workers, it actively resents them. In their eyes, we have gone from being the people who made things possible, to an unnecessary burden on the bottom line.

They hate that we charge money for our labor, and see that money as something we are stealing from their pockets."

Scientists in California have created a new way to see inside the body by combining ultrasound with a light-based technique called photoacoustic imaging. The result produces fast 3D images that show both the shape of soft tissues and how blood is flowing. It has already been tested on human heads, breasts and limbs, and could help doctors spot tumours, track nerve damage from diabetes and study the brain — without radiation or injected dyes. Caltech

They're not Waymo robotaxis. They're Google robotaxis.

KDE supports the "Keep Android Open" campaign

#Google will cut off independent developers to #Android if they do not register with Google first. This will kill independent platforms like @fdroidorg and severely impede FLOSS devs from creating apps for Android.

Many KDE apps are deployed for Android: KDE Connect, Itinerary, Tokodon, and there's even a test version of Krita for Android.

KDE calls on Google to reverse course and @keepandroidopen.

During thunderstorms, electric discharges in the air cause trees to glow with an ultraviolet aura. You can't see it with your eyes, but researchers have finally managed to measure it & recreate it in the lab.
