One thing that bugs me about apps is that I can't leave them open to a page and navigate to another page in the app in another instance (window, sessipn w/e) That's just such a useful feature and mobile app standrds (in terms of what folks do not what's powerful) have made it basically impossible

@hank @Myndex Next time I'm hanging in TO I can show you some tools of the trade (squirrel whispering)

@yhancik@octodon.social Nice! Yeah I think installable desktop software has this more often. Basically never see it in web apps and SaaS stuff though.

@hank @Myndex I dunno about Torobto but I can get most Ottawa squirrels into my hand with a bit of patience (and some peanuts). There's some vocalizations and hand gestures one can make that are similar to what they do to communicate with each other. I'ce read a bunch of stuff about squirrels and carry peanuts on me everywhwre I go specificallt to commune with them. Generally chipmunks are easoer though if you give them time.

Dang it'd be neat if everyday software had a "credits" section the way videogames and movies do.

Years of depression and ADHD has resulted in massive amount of clutter in *every* room of my house.

In the process of decluttering, I "create" empty space areas to move items into while I organize/sort/get rid of those items. A sort of swap space if you will.

The swap spaces change all over the house as I move things in and out of them, slowly getting more and more organized and things under control.

I realised today I'm literally defragging my house lol.

> whooops, we leaked 38TB of data.

> my bad - 34 years of social security numbers and passports leaked

> what do you mean the national postal service can't rent access to lists of citizen's information?

real reactions from database administrators. they have played us for absolute fools

I wish humans would turn down the light pollution in the night. Hard to enjoy the dark with all the floodlights and stuff blocking my view of the sky

@makeworld I find fuzzy match and glob search from the cli can make stuff lretty fast even if you have deep nesting

@rolltime Honestly for 200 - 300 dollars you can get a decent out of the box setup with one ofbthe cheaper Synology products. Way less time investment for something that will be stable and easy to expand/configure

I have no clue how google homes work, but I should be able to just sumkon it by name without extra app poking right?

If only I had a "perfect" p2p protocol that was resource efficient, mutable, and fully local-first. :x Also with http gateways and a url spec.

Considering making some sort of digital beast that I can summon into people's homes via their google assistant. I'd talk to it in code and use pass phrases to access it's true nature.

probs jusr for playing my music and stuff?

@daaain No, I think you're spot on with the ndjson stuff. I'm just too web browser brained with this niche api that barely anyone uses. :P opening a request and piping it into an ndjson parser might need a bit more work dependency wise or code wise, but it's also more likely to have easier implementations accross languages. 😅

I had a dream where @makeworld posted a screenshot of his terminal in a work group chat askong a question but it had some sort of cli command called "ужде" invoked like "ужде -уху | something" and I was in the middle of figuring out wtf it was supposed to do but my phone woke me up. I'm guessing it would have been some common tool used by merveilles.town folks though :P

(the cyrillic letters are gibberish btw and not actual words)

@jonny on a related note, if you haven't read Fine Structure by qntm, i'd strongly endorse it. I liked his desceiption of what it could be like if information was a fundamental force. qntm.gumroad.com/l/ELFop?layou

being a programmer is very liberating because i can turn any computer problem into a much weirder computer problem
