People get wrapped up over the silliest things and call it “opsec” but here’s an actual opsec tip a lot of people slip up on

are you covering a mailing address on an envelope for a photo? are there any barcodes of any kind anywhere on the envelope? (hint: yes, there are.) QR codes are a barcode. faint small tick marks are a barcode. fluorescent tick marks that seem invisible in the photo are a bar code. and the bar code IS the destination.

Glad to be at the end of this big push so that I can work less nights and cook more dinners 🥰

I post like the small bits of story exposition you find in some scifi game

@metasyn Yeah I've tried it before. 😁 TBH the "modes" and all the extensions end up being more than I want to deal with. I generally prefer something as minimal as possible and since my muscle memory is geared towards GUI text editing keyboard shortcuts vim (and emacs) end up getting in the way. Defs appreciate that people enjoy their editors though.
I ended up getting nano to behave more or less like a graphical text editor which is the only reason it works for me. github.com/RangerMauve/nanorc

I wish the Ontario government covered "extra arms" as gender affirming healthcare for transhumanists.

I really want one of these backpack thingies hooked up to a BCI or a touchpad on my toe or whatever.

It's like using Windows but worse because I can't just sidestep into bash. Also code editing is one of my main uses of computers so it's extra annoying when my flow is interrupted.

I want to get used to using a fancy IDE like VS Code again, but I find myself jumping back into bash+nano because everything is just so much faster and more simple. I hate how many random popups and shit VS code throws in my face and how there's random keyboard shortcuts I'd never use that I end up fat-fingering. Like, I don't care if there's a new version out, don't remind me later just never talk to me again.

Once libraries are nonexistent any modern fascist movement wouldn't even have to burn books, but flick one switch and they'd be remotely deleted from your Amazon Kindle or similar digital “library”.

Capitalists are already building the infrastructure to do this through DRM, so stop believing tech is apolitical - the defunding of libraries and paywalling of information are all part of this. :trantifa:

BTW for anyone interested in this stuff, come join my Matrix Channel about open source AI. matrix.to/#/#userless-agents:m

Food (fun)

OMG the pasta I added absorbed all the broth and now it's more like "Mac & Radishes".

Food (fun)

Added some radishes to my soup for the first time. I cooked them a bit too long and they disintegrate when you eat them but that's kinda fun too

@queue @FediPact @vantablack I wonder if they'd be willing to open source their implementation so they can dodge accusations more effectively.

Reminder to anyone who said "Meta wouldn't do anything to Fediverse, we should let them join!"

Meta is now automatically muting all posts that mention PixelFed, so it's users can't read about any alternatives to its services.

Just remember, *Every time advocacy groups warn about tech/capitalism, believe them.* We don't make shit up, we use history of actions and facts to state our reasons to be against it.

If your instance isn't part of @FediPact please urge your admins to join or move to another instance who is.

And if you want proof, ask the general public what Jabber/XMPP was, and then ask what Google how they killed it.

EDIT: *Please* send support to the creator of the FediPact, @vantablack as she is homeless. This is possible because of them.

EDIT #2: Some peppe are saying it doesn't happen anymore, but since it *only* happened to competitors to Facebook and only *after* people noticed, I don't think it was a "bug" that only impacted FOSS replacements, but a feature for Facebook removed. Don't give these Zuckers gaslight and think they remain innocent.

@hobs I think so, personally. It already makes use of IndexedDB for storing all the data so I'm not sure what is even taking up so much memory. Sadly I don't have the time to take heap snapshots

@fredy_pferdi Alas! It's still worth it for me to not have to use Windows or a regular laptop :P

I wish Element didn't load such a huge amount of data in memory and instead fetched it from indexed db on demand. It's bonkers how much is loaded as your volume grows.

@fredy_pferdi Yeah the issue is my Matrix client ends up eating way too much RAM and then I start eating swap. Might also have a memory leak somewhere in my OS wasting RAM after going out of sleep mode

@fredy_pferdi It hooks into your entire OS. I use github.com/ideasman42/nerd-dic with a custom script to make it easier to codehttps://github.com/RangerMauve/mauve-dictation

Since my OS is a steam OS derivative I needed to be fancy and install it in userspace: github.com/atcq/steam-dictatio

Then I have a global shortcut to toggle it on/off
