@T_X Jeeze that seems excessive. Imo you should just announce one network changes and initial lookup. unsure if os does rate limits though. Maybe I'll put together some sort of universal os level mdns thing one of these days
@dripline Wow so cooool
@T_X Oh wow it was actually 4 years ago. 💀
@T_X Sadly I haven't done much reading on the IPv6 case but in the IPv4 case I think you could cheat by using the reuseaddr flag since it treats it as a different socket in the table used to track sockets internally but BSD had some difference in it where that wasn't the case. Sadly my memory is hazy since it's been like 2 years since I looked.
I think for local processes a single daemon that does the multicast stuff with a domain socket to talk to it from multiple processes is the way to go.
@T_X I doubt the os impl would be all that different from libraries. Mdns is a pretty straightforward spec. The main thing to be weary of is conflicts with the OS since only one socket can bind to a given port for multicast udp. Meant that macos was very unreliable when software chose to bundle it's own
@atax1a If only offering scapegoats to the gods was as effective as in the movies 😮💨
@ifixcoinops Lmao I'm the nerd. I feel kinda bad about subjecting mortals to it but the streamlined alternatives somehow bring me more pain 😅
You know how when you go to the house of an absolute colossal nerd and you ask them
🐇 Hey, how do I watch Netflix?
🦝 Yeah no problem, well first you've gotta turn on the amp. That's the power button on this remote here. The right-hand power button that is, the left-hand one isn't programmed to anything yet
🐇 OK
🦝 Sometimes that makes the TV come on automatically, but if it doesn't then you've gotta turn on the TV. That's this button here on this other remote.
🐇 So we're on two remotes now
🦝 Nearly finished. Oh by the way, if you want to adjust the volume, use the first remote, the volume on the second remote doesn't do anything. Well it does, but it sounds terrible because that's the TV speakers, so leave that at zero
🐇 But I'm *watching* tv
🦝 Yes but you're *listening* to the amp. Oh, sorry, forgot, set the amp input to 2.
🐇 on the amp remote?
🦝 Yeah, the video goes through the amp too.
🐇 In my house we set the TV to a different input, should -
🦝 Don't do that here. Don't. The TV stays on input 1 with its sound muted. Next you've just gotta use this third remote, for the -
🐇 for Netflix?
🦝 Well, technically for Kodi, but that's nothing to worry about yet
🐇 yet?
🦝 We'll come to that,
🐇 I'm being *so* patient right now, I'm really proud of myself
Anyway, imagine that, but your your lightbulbs. This is what Home Assistant promises
@chu @alexglow @futurebird Looks like those tools used to perform a lobotomy
the fediverse now has a fast growing TikTok alternative: https://loops.video
While it remains in a pre-release beta state atm, we are testing federation and will be releasing full federation support, along with the source code once stable.
And we expect by this time next month, you will have a bright, shiny and easy to install TikTok alternative under your tree 🎄
Spread the word. Loops has arrived.
It's done. Now it’s your turn, Oracle.
We’ve submitted a formal petition to cancel the JavaScript trademark: it is generic, Oracle has abandoned it, and Oracle committed fraud on the USPTO during the last trademark renewal.
Oracle has until January 4th to respond, or the case will go into default, which will result in the trademark being canceled.
It's time to #FreeJavaScript.
