my local llm tool
Finally got a working search tool for my local LLM harness! SearXNG was kind of a pain in the ass to work with. :P Eventually I'll figure out getting an access token for marginalia search.

Found this neat CLI for duckduckgo search. Currently figuring out how it works so I can add it to some other tools. seems they don't auto-flag nodejs and python scripts as bots but do for curl/wget.
@modulux @WeirdWriter It's one of those interesting blind vs non-blind computer users things.
Having more stuff on screen makes sense to a degree: it means you don't have to menu dive as much to find features that may otherwise go undiscovered, you see it, you click it, you move on with your life.
Tricky bit for keyboard users and screen reader users is that we can't spatially access a screen like that, we either do it serially or have to use hotkeys and ignore the UI. So these two approaches are always at odds:
Either, you put as little as possible on the screen making it difficult to find anything on said screen and necessitating users to learn a bunch of menus or hotkeys, but making it easy to tab through it,
Or, you put as much as possible on the screen, everything you could ever want is now there, but tabbing takes forever so you're far less efficient.
Finding a balance everyody likes can be wickedly hard which is why it should be configurable
Vibe coding a code editor is counter to your goals because you're less likely to actually use its features and will end up leaving a bunch of obvious bugs. Great example: the `fresh` editor's LSP features are riddled with off by one errors that the dev would have seen if they actually used it to code.
@lvk Is tour nix flake published? I'm thinking of getting an XReal One Pro so I can have the spatial tracking on headset without any special software. I think one oversized monitor with 3DoF will suffice for what I need tbh. The XReal Aura has 70 FOV so I've considered waiting for it instead. 🤔 Getting monado to work was a major PITA on Arch linux so I kinda gave up. :P But I don't think I need xrdesktop and the such either?
Regarding remote scams, seriously:
If someone wants something over the phone or the Internet:
If you don't know them, just refuse without engaging.
If it seems that you know them, get back to them yourself, preferably in another way (over a different channel).
For e-mail, the first point means:
do not open anything from the message and do not reply.
Keep in mind that:
voice is easy enough to fake convincingly;
a phone number (caller ID) is also easy enough to fake for incoming calls;
any advertisement may be fake and it is easy enough to make it seem good.

I believe each such tactic must be as simple as possible to have a hope of being useful.
@suricrasia Learning more about immunology and chronic pain so I can support folks around me more effectively.
Sould I get a new head mounted display I can bring with me walking + coding (better fov, perscription lenses), or should I get the Steam Frame VR headset for a bit more gaming and being stationary and less "walking and coding". Long form thoughts appreciated. #vr #ar #steamframe
@lvk What do you prefer about it? What sort of device did you connect your xreals to?
@tnsipla.plamo.club I'm planning to do the bulk of my compute on khadas edge 2 still and the frame would focus on window management. I'm just unsure that the passthrough would be enough for walking on the street which has been okay with my viture. plus the battery is kinda bad which I'm already having trouble with. I just got my perscription updated so that's why I'm thinking upgrades. i use a twiddler one handed keyboard for input and it's great on the go! Would recommend

@pawpower I'm convinced that "fancy" designs are directly at odds with usability and accessibility. 🥲 Every bit of dynamic features they add to a site makes it more annoying to use.
this morning's first order of business is called "Deafblind woman vs. Candex." Candex is the system that Tulane University, amongst others, uses to pay guest lecturers or people not on staff. But in order to get paid i had to navigate the website which appeared straightforward but whatever they did caused my focus to bounce all over the place. So I would get to a form field, such as my name, or address, and i press the cursor router button on my braille display to tell the website that here is where I want to enter text. Does my cursor appear there? NO! NO! it does not! It instead appears in the form field immediately above it. Once I figured this out I realized that if I went back down to the field I wanted and pressed the CRB again, that time it would work. This happened for every.... single.... form field on the website. And there were A LOT! For my name, address, bank information including account and routing numbers which i needed to retrieve from my bank app and paste into Candex. Then I needed to upload a company w9, which I did and attempted to save but it crashed the website because there was a little box you needed to check swearing that the information you provided was accurate but I didn't see it because of my spastic focus. So I got to do the ENTIRE form again! Entering the 20 different things into the 20 different form fields and having to summon the focus twice for each one.... Then I re-upoloaded my w9 and this time found the checkbox and tchecked it and PAH! OMG! I was able to submit my request for payment. Holy fuck y'all! I should get extra pay just for wrangling their payment system. And this was all in all, a relatively good experience because I could troubleshoot the problems myself, but it is only a little passed noon and I'm questioning why I'm sober right now! Because i did this all on a 40 cell braille display. which means I can only read 40 characters at a time.... This is what it's like to be a deafblind business owner using the internet in 2026.... *sighs* but, I prevailed! I am victorious... or I will be once Tulane pays me.🧏♀️🦮😈
