I want to publicly announce a change in my thinking. For many years I have promoted non-profits, especially foundations as a good way to keep FOSS (Free and Open Source) projects protected and effective.
Not any more.
I am now leaning towards coops as the better vehicle. The cooperative approach allows for better distribution of power to those that do the work where foundations typically concentrate power on those with the money. This might become a long thread that'll take some time.
9. I saw this in the past but the new wearable setup makes it a lot more appealing to my use case. Might getone eventually and see if it helps with the eternal hand pain more :P
It's even more fun when the instance out is me and then I have to decide when in my schedule I'm gonna fit in fixing postgres. 🤪
For anyone curious, here's the published example app. Set up ollama and Agregore and you're good to go!

I'm getting a lot of mileage out of the "strange and esoteric" filter.
Might just make it a permanent addition. Can't be too much slower than the average ad blocker free page load.

Facebook and misinformation.
@CyberpunkLibrarian Social media is so funny cus like, they somehow managed to trick users into writing all the content for them, now they want us to be the mods? What's next, we're supposed to host the site too? Actually, come think of it, that's just Mastodon...
Fun example in the app I made for it. The message the LLM actually interpreted can be seen when you mouse over. I should find a name for a simulation of the experience of being misunderstood.
New: Meta has deleted trans and nonbinary Messenger themes, as well as the blog posts announcing them. Happens the same week that it has changed its rules to allow users to say LGBTQ+ people are "mentally ill"

neat "... under different conditions, distinct mechanisms (cell:cell communication and tubulogenesis vs. cytoskeletal bending) are triggered toward the same specific large-scale outcome. It arises because evolution does not just make specific solutions to specific problems, it makes problem-solving systems that do not over-train on prior history, knowing that both environment and genetics will change over time"

Occult Enby that's making local-first software with peer to peer protocols, mesh networks, and the web.
Exploring what a local-first cyberspace might look like in my spare time.
