#p2p #ActivityStreams present a new dynamic for #moderation where interactions are opt-in based on your social network rather than entire servers.
It also means that instances moderating content could leave room for individuals to connect to people they feel they don't want moderated.
E.g. some folks draw the line at blatant racism and transphobia, some folks draw the line at not explicitly hating cops. Right now lines apply to entire communities, but it could be individuals.
Netflix’s definition of a “family” is the latest example of technology biases written by and for rich white men and their families, ignoring the needs of billions of people living in the real world — @pluralistic
@cuaxolotl Yeah! They've been on my radar for a while. The docs and tools don't feel very accessible at the moment, but I think the concept is very cool.
@baliceauxPelican I had about as much pain getting GNOME to accept calendar invites. Setting up Evolution and mucking around there took almost as long. 🤣
Honestly my best email experience was using the default mail client in Windows 7 back in the day.
@JackDeeth@mastodon.online @jackdaw_ruiz At least I have the right number of hearts. Just gotta get the colors right. Maybe adding "photorealistic, trending on artstation" to my prompts will help.

@rogersherman I think the main culprit here is Google trying to force me to jump through a dozen hoops to use a mail client with raw SMTP/POP3. 🫠
Had to give Google my phone number to enable 2fa so I could register my authenticator app so I could remove the phone number and then create an "app password" and configure my mail client to use that.

God. Why do I curse myself with trying to use Linux?
I've wasted like 30 minutes just trying to get KMail to send my invoices over gmail. After hours fiddling before it managed to download emails, but now this shit has got me totally exasperated.
Do people not use gmail to send emails on KDE typically? How is the UX such shit?
@lucid00 I wouldn't go that path personally. SSB is very slow at the moment. Maybe once all the new feed stuff lands it'll be a bit more doable tho. It's got the social-based replication down pat though!
@jackdaw_ruiz Honestly, I don't think I could draw a face with the correct number of teeth. :x Only slightly sure I can do the correct number of fingers consistently.
@lucid00 Yeah, there's a bit of nuance on how we'll resolve data and how we can make sure loading data is efficient. IMO AP on it's own would be too slow for p2p use cases like "render my timeline with any likes and boosts tracked per post". But there's stuff we can do to make that feasible.
Lol, #p2p #activitypub is like a trigger word activating my "infodump about databases" training.
Like my eyes just roll to the back of my head and I enter sicko mode. Really glad I wrote up that blog post so I can defer to it instead of flooding every single chat I'm in. :P
@q3k Dang, I guess I know what my next portable computer setup is gonna be!
As Black and Brown queer, trans, & gender nonconforming folks, we often lack access to resources helping us thrive and maintain our well-being.
To accommodate folks looking for financial assistance, funds, fellowships, mental health, and other gender-affirming resources, we pulled together a recent and updated list of resources for our Resource Hub.
Our list of resources include funds, fellowships, grants, & other gender-affirming resources ✊🏽
I'm in hour 30 of a home internet outage (long story: my isp accidentally unplugged my cable uplink on monday and will replug it tomorrow) and it's been a while since I started using things in an offline mode.
Wow. So many things assume always-on connectivity these days. It's been an eye-opening experience.
There is very little graceful degradation of capabilities these days.
@malwaretech I'm excited for the day some billionaire can ask Chat GPT to 3d print a killbot. 🫠
@aral I think there's stuff kinda like this made for Android phones and Samsung DEX. :o
I've just been going fully modular and have a separate portable monitor, bt keyboard and bt trackpad. It's a bit more annoying to set up than a single shell that you can fold though. (Benefit is I can upgrade the components separately)
Occult Enby that's making local-first software with peer to peer protocols, mesh networks, and the web.
